Description
This piece is a continuation of a sculpture I had made, composing of two busts one a boy and the other a girl. I have been working with this imagery for a while now. Specifically the format of busts. There is a sense of power that comes from such an inherently classical greek format. I wanted to depict an orphan of war, depicted stylistically but rooted in this classical context. These days terrorism and American wars waged in the middle east and all over the world have become normalized. Destabilization and manipulation of grief to further an agenda. Our dependence on fossil fuel. Inequality. I want to face these cruel norms and also give light to how we see ourselves in this new world. How do we, as young caregivers of this planet, heal? How do we do less evil shit and focus more on the good? Where do we stand as “Canadians” and how can we offer support? What is OUR role?
